Institute of Laboratory Diagnostics and Public Health The Institute of Laboratory Diagnostics and Public Health brings together centres and experts involved in the development of scientific work and teaching in the area of laboratory examination methods, public and social health service, nutrition therapy and information systems in health service. It guarantees and provides lessons in Bachelor disciplines of Medical Laboratory Technician in full-time and combined study forms, as well as in the disciplines of Public Health Protection and Nutrition Therapist. It also offers teaching in the subsequent Master’s discipline of Public Health Protection and Support Professional. The importance of these disciplines keeps increasing. This is due to changes in society, lifestyle, alimentation, working conditions, leisure time and also thanks to new knowledge and methods offered by the disciplines. A great advantage of the Institute is its several teaching laboratories, as well as its close connection with practice. Thanks to the new potential of the laboratory diagnostics, the laboratory examination becomes an integral part of the determination of a reliable diagnosis, and therefore employers are highly interested in graduates from the discipline of Medical Laboratory Technician. The Public Health Protection and support includes activities and measures intended to develop and protect healthy living and working conditions and to prevent the origination and spreading of infectious and large-scale diseases, to prevent work-related health hazards, the origination of job-related diseases and other serious health disorders. That substantiates the great importance of the work of graduates from the disciplines of Public Health Protection and of the subsequent Master’s discipline, as well as the emphasis on their good preparation. The discipline of Nutrition Therapist also ranks among the disciplines whose work and results are reflected in the health conditions of individuals and of the population. The graduates have all the necessary conditions to competently apply the scientific knowledge on nutrition in practice.
