The members of the Institute are divided into three sections: nursing, midwifery and emergency care. A number of employees of the Institute are active in national and international professional organizations and in scientific or branch councils. The Institute makes use of the opportunities offered by the Erasmus program as well as of other funds, e.g. grants or development programs for exchange programs for teachers and students. The experience acquired through these foreign stays help to enrich the lessons. The teachers and the students of the doctoral program take part in international conferences. There is also intensive cooperation at international projects focused on the improvement of teaching and education of foreign students (Joint Degree study program).
The Institute also provides professional practical training both in the disciplined guaranteed by it, and in other study programs of medical orientation. A large part of the practical lessons take place in the main accredited clinical centre, i.e. in the Hospital of České Budějovice (Nemocnice České Budějovice, a. s.), at all levels of care. The primary lessons in primary care in the study programs of Nursing and Midwifery take place in consulting rooms of general practitioners, gynaecologists, home care agencies and hospice facilities. Students of the Medical Rescue Worker discipline have practical lessons in health care facilities, in standard wards and in specialized units and urgent admissions, in rescue service and within trainings of the integrated rescue service.
