The Institute of Social and Special-paedagogical Sciences (hereinafter USV) guarantees Bachelor´s and the following Master´s degree and Doctoral degree programme: Rehabilitation, field of study Rehabilitation-psycho-social Care of Handicapped Children, Adults and Seniors, further Bachelor's degree programme Social Politics and Social Work, field of study Social Work in Public Administration. The USV also guarantees a study programme called Special Pedagogy, in the study field of Special Pedagogy - Education. All fields of study contain theoretical training and an important part of the study is students´ practical training. Practical training and supervision are provided in cooperation with clinical workplaces of the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences. A long-term research task of the staff of the Department is the development of the implementation of findings and methods of key socio-scientific disciplines. The members of USV join the research projects and resort projects, the acquired findings are published in professional Czech and international journals. Academic staff participate in the solution of research projects of the Faculty and development activities. Within the research activity they cooperate with significant Czech and international institutions. They take part in national and international conferences every year and they are active in exchange stays at foreign institutions and universities. USV cooperates with universities in Germany, Austria, Belgium, Hungary, Poland, the Netherlands, Lithuania, Estonia, England, the U.S.A., Canada, Namibia and the Republic of South Africa. The USV also markedly profiled the area of lifelong learning, namely with the implementation of the programme: Further Education of Paedagogical Staff (DVPP). Education of the elderly is promoted in programmes of the University of the 3rd Age, and the USV also joins the European educational programmes and projects (Grundtvig - Partnership, the project Exceptional European Women in Older Age, 2000- 2012). In accordance with trends in social, health and social and special pedagogical areas, the USV focuses on extending the spectrum of creative activities, knowledge and skill potential of students as well as academic staff.
