About us
The Philosophy and Ethics Section develops the philosophical foundations of the fields studied at the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences. It defines the ethical problems arising during their implementation. The members have personal experience in social and health care, study relevant texts, and converse with Czech and foreign experts. The teachers apply their knowledge and experience in all study programs and degrees.
Activities
We are involved in all study programs of the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences. Our main educational goal is to teach students critical thinking, which today means seeing their world and tasks in a broader context. This is the eternal philosophical task. Philosophy has always offered a language that enables critical thinking. As to ethics, we guide students to understand the moral side of their profession, identify moral problems and dilemmas, and choose the best possible solutions.
We present our research results, studies, and dialogues with experts at seminars and conferences and, if possible, publish them in professional journals. We occasionally publish monographs and textbooks.
Our activities aim to remind the university and the public of the existence of ethics, a neglected topic today. We lead students to realise the importance of the moral dimension of human life, understand the basic moral principles, and apply these insights in their profession.
Our goals
Our members aim to further develop in their field, i.e., understand the challenges of the new age and find ways to deal with them. They will continue to strive to bring ethical issues into the public debate.
