At the ETNA Conference in Budapest, Dr. Věra Hellerová's poster received the prestigious Kouta Award

The 10th edition of the European Transcultural Nursing Association (ETNA) conference, which brings together experts from the fields of nursing and healthcare across Europe and other regions of the world, was held from June 22 to 25, 2025, in Budapest. This jubilee conference focused on the inspiring theme “Planetary Health: The Contribution of Transcultural Care – Past, Present, and Future,” had significant representation from our faculty.

The conference was attended by experts from 24 countries and featured over 60 oral presentations and 17 poster presentations. Participants reflected on the rich history of transcultural nursing and its current challenges. Many professional contributions illustrated how the knowledge, values, and experiences of the past have influenced current practices and contributed to improving global health outcomes. Presentations from various regions of the world demonstrated that culturally competent care is crucial not only for individuals but also for entire communities and broader socio-ecological systems.

The Faculty of Health and Social Sciences at the University of South Bohemia was strongly represented at this prestigious event. Dean Mgr. Ivana Chloubová, Ph.D., Vice-Dean for Science and Research Prof. PhDr. Valérie Tóthová, Ph.D., Vice-Dean for International Relations Mgr. František Dolák, Ph.D., Mgr. Věra Hellerová, Ph.D., and Ph.D. student Msc. Rehana Kaboroo all participated.

Faculty members presented the results of their research focused on the transcultural aspects of nursing care and nurse education. Dr. Věra Hellerová not only gave an oral presentation but also presented a poster that was awarded the best poster of the conference by the expert jury, earning her the prestigious Kouta Award. This award was established at the ETNA conference in 2023 in Denmark in honour of the distinguished figure in the field – the association's vice-president, Professor Christiana Kouta. "I am extremely pleased that our faculty was so strongly represented at the conference and that the award for the best poster went to our colleague," said Dean Mgr. Ivana Chloubová, Ph.D.

Transcultural nursing has a tradition of more than twenty years at the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences USB. Academic staff have long been conducting research in this area at both the national and international levels. In 2019, the faculty co-hosted this prestigious conference, which welcomed experts from over 18 countries. "It will be a great honour for us to once again be co-organizers of the ETNA conference in 2027, and we look forward to hosting transcultural nursing experts from around the world," concluded Prof. PhDr. Valérie Tóthová, Ph.D.
