In September, we will host an international symposium on the challenges affecting the empowerment of nurses in modern society

A major international event focusing on nursing, which will be discussed by experts in a broad context, is planned from 18 to 19 September 2025 at our faculty. This will be the 17th International Symposium, which this year has the following main theme: Challenges affecting the empowerment of nurses in modern society. It will focus on clinical and multicultural care and community care, trends in nursing education, Evidence-Based Nursing (EBN), and also on issues such as climate change and its impact on human health as well as cancer prevention in people with intellectual disabilities.

The organizers expect experts not only from all partner universities (University of Constantine the Philosopher in Nitra, Faculty of Social Sciences and Health, Slovakia; University of Pécs, Faculty of Health Sciences, Hungary; and Faculty of Health Sciences and Psychology, Collegium Medicum, University of Rzeszów, Poland), but also guests from other countries, including The Ohio State University, USA. The deadline for accepting active submissions has been extended to July 30, 2025. The program will take place in the main building of the ZSF JU Vltava/Uran, in lecture halls E and F, as well as in classrooms U9, U10 and U11.

The symposium at ZSF JU opens a new cycle of nursing, scientific and international meetings. The tradition of these symposia began in 2001 as the annual South Bohemian Nursing Days with international participation, initiated by the then head of the Department of Nursing, Prof. Valérie Tóthová, PhDr., Ph.D., dr. h. c. She initiated cooperation with foreign partner universities and introduced a rotation system, where since 2008 every other symposium is organized by a different partner university.

The aim is to explore the possibilities of further development and improvement of patient care, with the link between theoretical knowledge and quality practice considered to be an essential basis for a professional approach. The evaluation of this model of symposia to date confirms its considerable benefits, particularly through peer-to-peer meetings focused on common professional topics. The invitation is addressed to representatives of education and practice in the fields of nursing, midwifery and paramedicine, as well as to all those involved in or interested in the development of these fields.
