Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Friedo Zölzer, DSc., of the Institute of Radiology, Toxicology and Population Protection, has just returned from Abu Dhabi, where he took part in the 8th International Symposium of the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP).
The ICRP is a non-governmental organization that, since its founding in 1928, has provided recommendations for radiological protection in medicine, work involving naturally occurring radionuclides, and the nuclear industry. These recommendations are incorporated into legislation by most countries worldwide, including the Czech Republic.
The Commission consists of a Main Commission, four Committees, and several Task Groups. Prof. Zölzer is a member of Committee 4 (“Application of the Commission’s Recommendations”) and of three Task Groups. The photo below shows Task Group 121 on “Radiation Effects on Offspring and Next Generations” (Prof. Zölzer is in the center of the front row). Meetings of the Committees and Task Groups took place in the days leading up to the symposium.
In the symposium program, Prof. Zölzer was invited to give a talk on ethical aspects of radiological protection. All sessions, including his, are available on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zBRhDOMNhd0 (see 5:28:30 – 5:45:30).
