Teachers from the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences of the University of South Bohemia Become Members of the Prestigious International Organization Sigma Theta Tau International

On Thursday, teachers from the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences of the University of South Bohemia achieved a significant professional success. They became new members of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, a prestigious international honour society for nursing. They were admitted through the chapter at The Ohio State University (USA), one of the world’s leading universities. Its representative, Professor Dianne Morrison-Beedy, presented them with the symbols of membership at the international nursing symposium, held from Thursday to Friday at the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences. At the opening of the event, the symbols were received by the Dean of the Faculty, Dr. Ivana Chloubová, the Vice-Dean for Science and Research, Prof. PhDr. Valérie Tóthová, and the Vice-Dean for International Relations, Dr. František Dolák.
“Being accepted into Sigma Theta Tau is a great honour and an opportunity to develop our professional and international contacts. It is recognition not only of individual work but also of the high-quality activities of the entire faculty,” said the Dean of the Faculty, Mgr. Ivana Chloubová, Ph.D.
Membership in Sigma Theta Tau is highly prestigious for the nursing profession and affirms excellence in the field of nursing education and research. The organization brings together more than 135,000 members in over 100 countries and offers a platform for sharing experiences, supporting scientific research, grant opportunities, and international cooperation. This achievement therefore significantly strengthens the position of the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences of the University of South Bohemia in the international academic and professional environment and opens new opportunities for collaboration in the field of nursing education and research.
The symposium, held at the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences on September 18–19, 2025, opened a new cycle of nursing, scientific, and international meetings. It brought 70 active participants to the faculty, who in their presentations and discussions analysed nursing in a broad context. Experts came to České Budějovice from all partner universities (Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra, Faculty of Social Sciences and Health Care, Slovakia; University of Pécs, Faculty of Health Sciences, Hungary; and the Faculty of Health Sciences and Psychology, Collegium Medicum, University of Rzeszów, Poland), as well as guests from other countries, including The Ohio State University, USA. The main theme of the 17th edition of this prestigious event – originally initiated by the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences of the University of South Bohemia – was the challenges influencing the strengthening of the role of nurses in modern society.
