Teachers of English from the FHSS USB travelled to Ireland to get acquainted with teaching approaches and methods at Atlantic Language

Mgr. Zlatana Midžić and Mgr. Pavel Bluďovský, language teachers from the Institute of the Humanities and Helping Professions of the FHSS USB, spent the week from 18 April 2022 at Atlantic Language School in Galway, Ireland. During the stay they met with the management of the school and assisted in various English courses. These courses included general B2 and C1 level classes, an academic writing and presentation course with Sarah Toomey, a preparatory course for the IELTS exam, and a workshop for teachers participating in job shadowing with Olive Waldron.

The main objective of the trip was to learn about the teaching methods and approaches at Atlantic Language. Pavel Bluďovský said: “We gained experience with teaching methods which might be useful for the foreign language classes at our faculty – especially some internet tools. Another benefit was the contacts we forged with teachers who might be interested in taking part in reciprocal mobility.”

Visiting a new English-speaking country provided our colleagues with a unique opportunity to discover Irish culture and gain experience with local English dialects. They made valuable contacts with Atlantic Language School students, teachers, and academics. They also gained experience in teaching multinational groups and the implementation of a ‘non-paper environment’. Several excursions were included in their stay, and naturally, the promotion of the FHSS USB to foreign students and teachers.
