Students from the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences of the University of South Bohemia will be measuring blood pressure, blood cholesterol, BMI and blood glucose (blood sugar) at the terminal of České Budějovice Hospital on Friday 13 May from 9 am to 1 pm. They will also inform the public on recognizing the first signs of stroke and how to adequately react.
The event is held in collaboration with the hospital's neurology department to mark International Stroke Prevention Day (ISPD), which falls on 15 May each year. It is also related to a project being carried out at the FHSS USB, which aims to monitor health literacy, prevention, and to describe follow-up care for patients with mild disability after an ischemic stroke. This project is implemented by the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences in cooperation with the neurology department of the České Budějovice Hospital. Mgr. Lenka Šedová, Ph.D., the coordinator of the Centre for Prevention of Lifestyle Diseases of the Faculty of Health Social Sciences of the University of South Bohemia, explained: "The purpose of the event is to point out the symptoms of stroke, and also to show that, to some extent, stroke is a preventable disease, the occurrence of which is closely linked to lifestyle.”
