The Faculty of Health and Social Sciences of the University of South Bohemia hosted two erudite academics from the University of Sarajevo, Faculty of Health Studies, between 21-25 February 2022. During the stay, Vedran Ðido gave lectures to nursing and paramedic students, while Eldad Kaljić taught physiotherapy students. The visit was part of the 2020 Erasmus+ KA 107 Credit Mobility project, which aims to increase cooperation between the FHSS USB and universities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Israel, Canada, Albania, and Nepal.
Vedran Ðido´s lecture (for first year students of the General Nursing programme) dealt with the characteristics of successful communication in the health system. Future paramedics (second year students) learned about the quick and easy interpretation of ECG. These lectures provided an interesting and interactive insight into the subject. Dido also met up with Gloria Babič, a student who is completing her practical internship at České Budějovice hospital as part of Erasmus +.
Eldad Kaljić introduced second and third year students of the Physiotherapy study programme to physiotherapy and multidisciplinary care in adolescents with spinal deformities, as well as to physiotherapy methodology and techniques in radicular low back pain.
Both teachers were very positive about the interest of the students, especially in relation to their excellent language skills, which allowed for rich and constructive discussions. They met the representatives of the Department of Nursing, Midwifery and Urgent Care, the Department of Physiotherapy and Selected Medical Disciplines, as well as the Dean of the Faculty and the Vice Dean for international relations. They also visited selected clinical departments of the faculty, including the Centre of Physiotherapy of the FHSS USB, České Budějovice hospital, the Slatinné Spa in Třeboň, and the Arpida centre for the rehabilitation of disabled persons. The guests particularly appreciated the close cooperation between these departments and the faculty, and the efforts to integrate therapeutic knowledge from the academic environment into real practice.
The cooperation between the two universities has been further deepened by the professional practice of students of the University of Sarajevo at the FHSS USB (visits last two months, for students of General Nursing and Physiotherapy). Currently, a total of four students from Bosnia and Herzegovina are completing these internships at the FHSS USB.
In the summer semester of the academic year 2021/2022, two lecturers of the Physiotherapy study programme will visit the University of Sarajevo, Faculty of Health Studies: Mgr. Alena Bínová and Mgr. Eliška Nováková.
